ABOUT COLLAGE

Theni Kammavar Sangam College of Arts and Science is an off shoot of Theni Kammavar Sangam. The institution was established with the noble objective of providing high quality education to the socially and the economically challenged sections of the Theni district. The management nurtures the vision of making the institution a hub of academic excellence in arts, science, commerce and management studies giving equal focus to teaching, research and extension activities. In order to accomplish these, the institution offers state of the art teaching and learning environment by maintaining right academic ambiance. The college was established in 2009 with 04 undergraduate courses , 247 students and 10 teaching faculty members. Now it has leapfrogged to 11UG, 08 PG and 01 M.Phil courses. There are 110 well qualified teaching faculty members and adequate number of supporting staff. Among them, there are 10 Ph.D holders and near about 15 members pursuing Ph.D. The college maintains excellent academic record and produces university ranks every year. In the year 2014-15, the institution was able to secure 05 university ranks( 02 UG and 03 PG ranks). The institution is housed in a sprawling campus against sylvan settings overlooking the imposing mountains. There are well aerated and ventilated classrooms, state of the art laboratories, fully equipped computer laboratories, recycled drinking water facility and a modern library. The institution has a modern cafeteria with separate dining facilities for boys ,girls and staff members. A fleet of buses enable the college students commute from their homes to the college and back. There are well laid football and hockey grounds as well as basket ball courts. There are exclusive hostels for men and women . In the academic year 2015-16, the major recruiters of the institution were Infosys BPO, Premier Mills and Muthoot Finance. The college gives equal focus to aesthetic aspects of its learners. For this, there are several associations and clubs formed to serve as springboards for these kinds of activities.

English Department

This course is taught by the Department of English which comprises highly qualified staff members. This means you are taught by staff doing some of the best teaching and makes for a uniquely stimulating and exciting learning environment. Physics Department

Chemistry Department

The Chemistry Department provides opportunities for an undergraduate student to obtain a thorough fundamental knowledge of all fields of chemistry. The learning components include the general areas of inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry, plus many more specialized courses including analytical, nuclear, and biophysical chemistry and chemical biology. Laboratory experience is provided in inorganic and organic synthesis, analytical methods, physical chemical measurements, spectroscopy, biochemical engineering, and chemical methods in nuclear technology. Independent and original work is stressed in the laboratories and modern equipment is available to carry out the work. The equipment and techniques available to the undergraduate students include nuclear magnetic resonance, electron para magnetic resonance, visible, ultraviolet, and infra-red spectrometers, X-ray diffraction, mass spectrometer, high-vacuum, high-pressure, and low-temperature equipment, gas chromatography, and others. Many of these instruments are interfaced directly to computers. In other cases, data analysis and graphics display are accomplished by using the Computer Facility. In addition, special arrangements are made to apply many specialized research techniques available on the campus.

Facilities

Laboratory

Rules Followed in Labs (Computer/Physics/Chemistry)

Students should enter inside the labs and take up the allotted place before the second bell. Late comers are not permitted to enter inside labs.

Students are prohibited from defacing or damaging the equipments. The cost of any damage so caused will be recovered along with fine and penalty from the students concerned or collectively if responsibility for it cannot be fixed on any individual.

Silence should be maintained strictly.

Students are advised to switch off the systems, fans and lights when they leave the classrooms.

Lab observations must be submitted on or before the announced date.

Students must leave their slippers in the respective racks.

Before entering the labs students must get proper permission from staff in charge/lab admin/lab assistants.

Library

All students and teaching staff are members of the library.

Working Hours: Between 9.00 A.M and 4.00 P.M on all working days.

The issue counter will be kept open on all working days from 9.00 a.m. onwards.

The members are not permitted to carry books, note books, bags and other personal articles inside the library.

They should be left at the special counter for this purpose at the entrance.

Absolute silence must be observed in the library.

Each registered member is eligible to borrow books as given below:

(i) Faculty : Unlimited

(ii) Students: UG – 2 Books, PG – 5 Books

Members should not alter the arrangement of books in the shelves.

If any book is taken out from the shelf, it should be placed back in its original place.

Members should use the books with care. They are advised to examine the books when they borrow and if any book is found damaged, it should be brought to the notice of the Librarian immediately. If they fail to do so, they will be responsible for any damage discovered when it is returned to the library.Sub-lending or transferring of books is strictly prohibited. Any kind of marking, underlining etc., in the books is absolutely forbidden.

If any book is lost or damaged by the member, he/she will be responsible to replace it or pay twice the original cost of the book or the present market rate.

A borrowed book must be renewed on or before the renewal date or it must be returned.

Further, the Librarian reserves the right to call back any book issued to any member before the due date, if it is required for any important purpose in the library or if the demand for the book is high.

All students are instructed to sign in the register which is kept at the entrance.

Transfer Certificate will be issued only after the production of NO_DUE Certificate from the library.

Hostel

GENERAL CODE OF CONDUCT FOR STUDENTS IN COLLEGE & HOSTEL

As a mark of good conduct and culture, students are expected to exchange greetings with Principal and members of the staff.

All Students should wear neat & clean uniform. Students are forbidden from wearing T-Shirts and Jeans.

Students are forbidden to smoke in the college premises.

Students are forbidden to write or make any marks on the walls or desks or to throw papers or sprinkle ink on the floors of the class rooms.Those who violate these rules are liable to be punished.

If any damage is caused to any of the property of the college by any student /group of students, the cost of the same will be recovered with fine from the particular student/group of students.

No student who has been convicted of any offence in a court of a law will be allowed to continue his/her studies in the college.

Students should abstain from active participation in party or communal politics. Students who indulge in political propaganda or organize fellow students in politics in the precincts of the College or Hostel or engage themselves in party politics are liable to be expelled from the College and Hostel.

The Principal shall have power to frame and issue from time to time disciplinary rules of a permanent or temporary character regulating the conduct inside and outside the college precincts.

The principal / The Hostel authorities shall have full power to inflict the following punishments in the interests of the students or of the institution: fine, suspend and expel a student for violation of disciplinary regulations and code of good behavior.

No notice of any kind should be circulated or put up on the notice board without prior written permission from the Principal .Posters of any kind should not be pasted on the walls in the College/Hostels premises.

No meeting of any kind should be held in the college campus without the previous written permission from the principal.

Students are not allowed to conduct any religious meeting in and around the college/hostel campus. Those who involve in religious activities are liable to be expelled from the college and hostel.

No student should, on any account, be permitted to enter inside the college office.

Any articles such as calculator, books, instruments etc., found in the college premises, which presumably lost must be handed over with all relevant derails to the principal.

Ragging, eve teasing, quarrelling etc., spoil the peaceful atmosphere of the college. Students are, therefore, advised against indulging in such undesirable activities which invite not only disciplinary action from the college but also the intervention of the law and order machinery of the State.

Students are not permitted to leave the college premises during working hours. They are required to get the prescribed “Out Pass” duly endorsed by the HOD concerned, before leaving the premises for any emergency/urgent needs. The “Out Pass” must be submitted to the Watch & Ward Officer at the Main Gate.
