With a market standing of over five decades had pioneered the indigenous development of Self Setting Automatic Slack Adjusters for Global and Indian Markets. MEI’s Automatic Slack Adjusters are exported to Europe, North America, South Africa, Brazil, Korea, Mexico, and Russia.

MEI is the preferred development partner for SASA by all OEMs in India. MEI enjoys over 80% fitment share with TML, AL, VECV, Bharat Benz, MTBL, and other OEMs in all their air brake fitted models. This apart, MEI is the 100% source for Trailer axle manufacturers like YORK, JOST, ADR, etc. MEI provides the widest product range covering Straight arm, Offset type & Crank type to suit every axle requirement.

MEI has its own State-of-the-art Research and Development facility at Maraimalai Nagar, Chennai accredited by Government of India. MEI’s SASA is an in-house developed product and has 5 global patents. MEI has also developed Clutch Boosters thru home-grown expertise for all Light & M&HCV applications and is the principal source to TML. MEIs Clutch Boosters have significant recognition with both OEM and AM customers.

MEI has diversified into developing Air Disc Brakes for Passenger vehicles and has been exporting ADB assemblies to Europe. MEI ADB assemblies are retrofitted in various buses in India. All ADB assemblies exported have type approved by KBA.

MEI has set up a state-of-the-art Foundry for the manufacture of SG Iron castings. This foundry is equipped with DISA automatic high pressure flask-less vertically parted green sand molding machines, Complete dust, and fume extraction systems.

All Plants of MEI have IATF / TS 16949, ISO 14001 certifications. All ASAs exported has type approval by Link Laboratories USA and TUV Germany.

COMMERCIAL VEHICLE DIVISION

The CVD is responsible for manufacturing of Slack Adjusters, Clutch Boosters and Air Disc Brakes to both domestic and international markets.  Strategic Sourcing, Supply Chain Management, Operations, Quality, HR and Manufacturing excellence are the main functions of CVD.

The key Strategic intents of this division include

Manufacturing excellence thru Lean Production system, digitally enabled no-fault forward works stations, flexible manufacturing.

Quality excellence thru SQA, IATF

CVD has 3 manufacturing locations (5 plants) in and around Chennai. Considering MEI product range being safety critical, the manufacturing template involves inhouse manufacture of all critical internal parts. The plant at Ambattur, the first manufacturing location for MEI,  is primarily engaged in manufacture of all internal parts for the Slack Adjusters and is equipped with the precision gear cutting machines, broaching machines, thread rollers, etc.

Maraimalai nagar plant is dedicated for manufacturing and assembly of slack adjusters and clutch boosters for domestic market. With modern manufacturing facilities and quality focused assembly lines, this plant delivers over 400 varieties of Slack Adjusters and over 13 varieties of Clutch boosters to the domestic market.

Mahindra city plants focus on exports. While the mainstay product of Slack Adjusters are exported for both OEM fitment and for after market to various countries, the newly crated Air Disc Brake plant has commenced export of ADB assemblies to UK After Market

Foundry Division

MEI invested in Foundry division @ Pillaipakkam in 2012 to enable faster response o customer schedules & to build flexibility to meet customer product requirement. This Foundry specialises in SG Iron Castings (Ductile/Spheroidal) focus on safety critical parts on both commercial vehicle and passenger vehicle applications. Over the period MEI has developed many external customers and has been recognised as a high quality casting supplier. MEI also exports regularly ready-to-fit machined castings to the US and European markets. Mei focus on growing external customer business.

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

MEI has State-of-the-art R&D centre at Maraimalai Nagar facility. Our in house R&D centre is audited and certified by India’s Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR). MEI R&D employs over 35 skilled engineers in designing, developing and validating products for both domestic and international markets. The R&D team continuously works on strengthening our technology to keep abreast of the changes, upgrade & develop new products to meet increasing global demands. We continuously engage in collaborative work with Premier educational Institutes for synchronizing with technology for developing world-class products for our customers.

During 2007 when the mandate for Automatic slack adjusters was implemented in India, MEI pioneered the self-adjusting slack adjusters and offered the best-suited product to Indian OEMs. This home grown design developed by MEI enjoys 5 global patents apart from the quality accreditation from all OEMs as the most reliable product. MEI offers wide range of slack adjusters with various lever lengths, straight or offset arm, low or high torque type versions, and supplies over 800 SKUs globally.

In 2011 MEI developed hydraulically triggered, Air assisted Clutch boosters with in-house R&D efforts. This product holds the customer’s trust for its quality levels and higher reliability and helped in import substitution. MEI patented clutch booster comes in the complete range which covers 70 mm, 76 mm, 90 mm and 102 mm diameter versions to suit any vehicle application.

In 2014 our R&D engineers developed Air Disc Brake Calipers suitable for most of the European vehicle applications. We offer wide range of ADB based on wheel rim sizes and different rotor diameters and multiple variants based on chamber mounting angle and wear sensor type. Today MEI is a recognized brand in Europe for Air Disc Brakes for its quality & reliability and we are working towards the development of ADB for the Indian OEMs.

The R&D Centre is accompanied by a full-fledged testing laboratory. Our lab is equipped with test rigs, fatigue rigs and LINK dynamometer to carry out the complete product testing as per SAE, ECE R13 / R90, JIS and other global standards. Our testing engineers carry out the performance and endurance testing of Slack Adjusters, Clutch boosters & ADB in-house.
