Welcome! here's the recipe procedure for making Coconut / Pooran Poli (Thengai Poli):
- 1 cup of grated coconut
- 1 cup of jaggery, grated
- 1/2 teaspoon of cardamom powder
- 1 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour
- A pinch of salt
- Water, as required
- Ghee, as required
In a mixing bowl, combine the grated coconut and grated jaggery. Mix well until the jaggery is completely dissolved.
Add cardamom powder to the coconut-jaggery mixture and mix again.
In another bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and a pinch of salt. Add water slowly and knead the dough until it is soft and pliable.
Divide the dough into small balls and flatten each ball with a rolling pin. Place a spoonful of the coconut-jaggery mixture on the flattened dough.
Gather the edges of the flattened dough to cover the filling and form a ball. Repeat the process with the remaining dough and filling.
Dust the work surface with some flour and roll out each ball into a thin, flat circle.
Heat a tawa or griddle over medium heat. Place the rolled-out poli on the tawa and cook until the bottom is lightly browned.
Flip the poli and cook until the other side is lightly browned as well.
Apply ghee on both sides of the poli and cook for a few more seconds until the ghee is absorbed.
Repeat the process with the remaining poli.
Serve hot and enjoy your delicious Thengai Poli!
Note: You can adjust the amount of jaggery according to your taste. You can also add some roasted poppy seeds to the coconut-jaggery mixture for extra flavor.
