Our Patroness:

Carmel International School was established in the year 2009 and is run by the Catholic Fathers of the CMI congregation. The congregation was founded by Fr. Kuriakose Elias Chavara in 1831 at Mannanam near Kottayam and is the first and the largest indigenous congregation for men in the Catholic society. CMI Educational Society is one of the largest, single educational agencies in India having several hundreds of educational institutions spread over the sub-continent. It is open to all, irrespective of caste and creed.

Our Founder, Bl.Kuriakose Elias Chavara was born at kainakary, in Kerala. He laid the foundation for all the modern and progressive fields of activities to which the congregation is committed at present. Having been a great visionary and committed at present. Having been a great visionary and a saintly priest, he lived a life of prayer and commitment to the society. He was also a great social reformer, a great orator, an administrator and ventured into many humanitarian activities in his life-time. He is the forerunner in the field of education in Kerala.It is from his life of adventure, we draw the inspiration to carry on the task of imparting wisdom to the generations to come.

Admission

 ·         Admission to the school is restricted by certain policies of the management and by the condition of age,ability and conduct.

Attendance

 ·         Maintain a minimum of 90% attendance

·         Produce a Doctor certificate for absence due to sickness for more than 3 days

·         Absence of a student on an examination day will be considered as leave and they will not be able to re-write the examination.

Speech/Spoken skills

 ·         Be polite,Courteous and respectful while communicating with teachers, friends and visitors

·         Abusive language,bullying and harassment are banned.

Uniform Dress code

 ·         On all week days boys have to use Red checked shirts with half sleeves and black shorts or pants.(Pants are compulsory for boys from Grade VI onwards.For classes upto Grade V only shorts are allowed.

·         Do not put your hands and head outside the window of the bus.

·         Do not get down in any other stop other than yours.

·         Students who cause damage to the bus will have to pay the penalty.

·         The school will not provide alternative transport facilities to students who miss the bus.

Grievance Redressal Committee

The Grievance Redressal Committee comprises of the Principal, senior faculties and a student representative. Any aggrieved student may make an application to the Principal at the Grievance Redressal Cell seeking redressal of grievance. The Grievance Redressal Cell shall receive the complaint and the Committee shall fix a date for hearing the complaint and communicate its decision within ten days of receipt of complaint. The Grievance Redressal Committee shall ensure disposal of every application as speedily as possible, and not later than a month of receipt of the grievance. On the conclusion of proceedings, the Committee shall pass such order, as may be deemed fit to redress the grievance and provide relief as may be desirable to the affected party at issue. In case of false or frivolous complaint, the Committee may take appropriate action against the complainant.

GUIDELINES FOR GRIEVANCE REDRESSAL COMMITTEE

Objective: To provide a mechanism to students of the school to raise their grievances and to provide redressal for the same so that they have smooth tenure at the school from the day of admission till they leave school.

Definition: “Aggrieved student” means a student who has any complaint in the matters concerned with the grievances defined under these guidelines, and includes a person seeking admission to the

“Grievances”: Grievances include the following complaints of the aggrieved students, namely:

Making admission contrary to merit determined in accordance with the declared admission policy of the school;

Demand of money in excess of that specified in the declared admission policy or approved by the competent authority to be charged by the

Breach of the policy for reservation in admission as may be applicable

Complaints, of alleged discrimination of students, from the Scheduled Castes, the Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, Women, Minority or Disabled categories;

Non payment or delay in payment of scholarships to any student that the school is

Delay in conduct of examinations or declaration of results beyond that specified in the academic calendar;

Non provision of student amenities as may have been promised or required to be provided by the school;

Denial of quality education as promised at the time of admission or required to be provided;

Non transparent or unfair evaluation practices;

Harassment and victimization of students, including sexual harassment;

Members of Posco Committee: The present members of the complaints committee to deal with the complaints of sexual harassment in accordance with the guidelines laid down by the supreme court of India relating to sexual harassment of women workers at work places and students are as follows:

Committee Against Sexual Harassment

With regard to the Supreme Court Judgment and guidelines issued in 1997 to provide for the effective enforcement of the basic human right of gender equality and guarantee against sexual harassment and abuse, more particularly against sexual harassment at work places, the CBSE has issued circulars to all the institutions, advising them to establish a permanent cell and a committee and to develop guidelines to combat sexual harassment, violence against women. It has further advised the institutions to be proactive by developing a conducive atmosphere in the campus, where the status of woman is respected and they are treated with.

Objective:

The objectives of the Committee are:

Prevent discrimination and sexual harassment against women, by promoting gender amity among students and employees;

Deal with cases of discrimination and sexual harassment against women, in a time bound manner, aiming at ensuring support services to the victimized and termination of the harassment;

Procedure for Approaching Committee:

The Committee deals with issues relating to sexual harassment at the Lisieux CMI Public School. It is applicable to all students, staff and faculty. A complaint of discrimination or sexual harassment may be lodged by the victim or a third party. A written complaint may be addressed to the Convener of the Committee. If the complaint is made to any of the Committee members, they may forward it to the Convener of the Committee against Sexual Harassment. Here it should be noted that according to the Supreme Court guideline Sexual harassment can be defined as “unwelcome” sexually determined behaviour (whether directly or by implication) as:

Physical contact and advances

Demand or request for sexual favours

Sexually coloured remarks

Showing derogatory picture

Other unwelcome physical, verbal or non-verbal conduct of a sexual

Procedure for dealing with complaints:

Filing of a complaint:

If any associate believes that she/he has been subjected to sexual harassment, such person may file a complaint with any member of the committee. The committee member on receiving a complaint will intimate the committee convenor. The committee convenor would arrange for a meeting within a week of receipt of the complaint for discussing the complaint raised.

Complaints must be brought within 30 working days of the incident of sexual harassment. Complaints brought after that time period will not be pursued except some extraordinary circumstances. The determination of whether the complaint was timely or whether extraordinary circumstances exist to extend the complaint period must be made in conjunction with the legal team. Every attempt will be made to get the complainant to provide the complaint in writing. The complaint shall include the circumstances giving rise to the complaint, the dates of the alleged occurrences and names of witnesses, if any. The complaint shall be signed by the complainant.
